Roza Otunbayeva, Kyrgyzstan’s first female President, has been appointed as the new UN special envoy for Afghanistan. Otunbayeva, who served as Kyrgyzstan’s President from 2010 to 2011, will replace Canada’s Deborah Lyons. “Otunbayeva brings to the position over 35 years of…experience in leadership, diplomacy, civic engagement and international cooperation,” UN chief António Guterres said.
