The price has risen from about Rs 20 a kg recently to Rs 75 per kg for the regular variety, Rs 100 for the white onions and Rs 125 per kg for sambar onions.
The first reason mentioned here is the gap in demand and supply.many farmers who grow onions, are selling them to the international market because they want to earn more money and this has triggered a shortage of supply in the country.
