Sri Lanka’s Parliamentary Speaker on Friday said that he has accepted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation letter after verifying its authenticity. “From this point, we will move to constitutionally appoint a new President,” Speaker Mahinda Abeywardena added. Rajapaksa resigned on Thursday after fleeing to Singapore amid mass protests over the ongoing economic crisis in the island nation.
